Ingleton Waterfalls.
We have just had the most wonderful of days.
So many photos, but it had to be this one of our eldest grandson, who will be 16 at Christmas.
I can never get him to have a photo taken, but at this spot he climbed over the fence(yes I know he shouldn't have!) and wanted a photo taken of himself in front of the falls. You can see how happy he was. (usually pulls a face when having a photo taken!)
If you are ever in this area you must do this walk.
Now maintained by the Ingleton Scenery Company. It has some of the most spectacular waterfall and woodland scenery in England.
It is 4.5miles mostly through the woods following the river Twiss up the valley through deep gorges, and through wonderful woodland.
Then over the moorland, and down the River Doe,over more waterfalls, through woods and spectacular gorges, back to Ingleton.
The two rivers meet to become the River Greta which then flows into the River Lune.
We were lucky to see the falls at their best, because of all the rain we have had lately.
The noise of the water crashing down over the ravines and the rocks was deafening in places.
We had a picnic on a very well placed bench looking across to the Thornton Force waterfall. This falls 14 metres over limestone rocks in an impressive cascade.
(incidently sketched by JMW Turner)
The falls in the photo are part of the Pecca Falls.
We had a stop for Fish and Chips on the way home, and I now feel quite tired!
Although a certain young man was still full of it and off to meet one of his mates!
I think it might be an early night for me!
