Akshata

Akshata is yellow uncooked, unbroken rice made by combining the grain with turmeric. It is used by Hindus on auspicious occasions to draw prosperity and fertility and also offered to the Goddess of wealth, Laxmi in the hopes of gaining a bounty.

If any the rice grains of the Akshata are broken, the spell can't be cast.

On the occasion of a Hindu marriage ceremony the Akshata is sprinkled over the bride and groom as a blessing and their guests all of whom sit on the ground or a low podium. Once the ceremony is finished, the grains must be swept up, put aside and nobody is allowed to step on them.

We received this hand written wedding invitation along with Akshata.
