Norwegian ingredients, but a very British dish
Had a very nice day with my blip-aholic wife and the kids at "Matstreif" food festival here in Oslo.
The Matstreif food festival is an annual event with two days of activities for "foodies" of all ages. Thousands of people visit the festival to taste, shop and learn about Norwegian food.
Over 100 exhibitors take part in Matstreif, which is divided into a general market area, a seafood area, a vegetable area and a farmers' market.
So after a day of tasting, shopping of local an short traveled food and lovely vegetables we headed home to cook dinner and get the kids to bed.
As the big meat lover I am and mostly in charge in the kitchen today's choice was roast beef of ribeye cut local beef, roasted withe-, yellow- and beetroots plus roasted "Gulløy potatoes" that is a northern Norwegian speciality - potatoes grown in the midnight sun, thus sun day and night that makes them very tasty! The sauce was made of the juice from the meat, fresh mushrooms and a dash of cream fraiche.
To please my dear Scottish wife I made Yorkshire pudding for my first time, and was quite pleaded with the result.
Now we are going to enjoy some Norwegian experimental chocolate from Meium Chocolate factory at Selbu. One of them containing reindeer and tasted amazing.
