Hen of the Woods
Not to be confused with the Chicken of the Woods, which is a sulphur coloured fungus, this could have been a treat if it wasn't far to near a car park and where every dog in Surrey most likely lifted it's leg to it!
This is Grifola frondosa and it aches not to have thought it safe to pick as they are very tasty! This is quite a yellow specimen, they are normally more towards grey, but it is young and will grow a bit more, although there are three clumps on the trunk and roots that are nearing 50cm across! They aren't that common in the UK and finding this gives me an idea that this year should be good for fungi.
I've back blipped a startrail I took in the early morning on the 5th looking over the beach in front of the house at Crinan Ferry. Thank you for all the wonderful comments from those that have already seen it. I've also added how I did it!
It's been wonderfully warm here today. Maybe summer has arrived with the autumn light. Tomorrow the Tour of Great Britain passes my house. I may see if I can get a blip of them passing through. I doubt I can go anywhere as the information on road closure times is appalling!
