Taking advantage
Or I could have called it "Poor wee thing".
This fantail or piwakawaka was down on the ground as if it had knocked itself silly but fantails are so good at flitting around I have never seen them hit a window let alone a tree.
A young tourist pointed it out along on the walkway by the wharf. We could see it was breathing okay and when she put her hand down it moved away. So we just waited and then it took off down into the grass and then flew up into the only tree.
I, of course, took advantage of it being still and so close. I did feel a bit mean. It's eyes were closed at this point so no beady eye peering from under that eyebrow of feathers.
