Plitvice Lakes
A terrific morning at the Plitvice Lakes National Park, a limestone gorge with 16 lakes spilling into one another. We were advised to arrive early to walk along the boardwalks through the gorge, avoiding the crowds of visitors arriving on dozens of coaches.
I believe "Plitvice" means "land of a million selfies." I could go off on a rant about how inconsiderate people are blocking the path, with their tripods and backpacks but I won't. Instead, all credit to the chap in the red and white shirt for selfie of the day.
I must share an extract from the guide book to the park: "The name "Falling Lakes" is inasmuch appropriate as the 8200km (sic - it seemed more like 8200m to me) long resplendent beads veer down connected with waterfalls, bigger and smaller ones, from the highest to the lowest with the difference of 150m. To imbue in the secrets of creation of the lakes means to imbue in the centennial fabric seemingly made of simple formations." Quite.
