Game of Thrones tour (may contain spoilers)
Backblip 2
Up early after some sleep, (why are hotel rooms always so hot and noisy if the window is open ?,after a quick breakfast we made our way to collect our tickets for a Game of Thrones tour from Victoria Station.
We were in plenty of time in the end and boarded the coach with a number of people of all nationalities.Three people had nt turned up so we left with out them.
Our first stop was Carrickfergus Castle an impressive medieval castle. We had a quick walk round and were joined by the three missing tourists.
Next to Carnlough Village, a very pretty harbour with plenty of fishing boats. Mike went to the shop and bought our lunch while I wondered along the harbour front. Part of the harbour, the steps particularly were used when Arya Stark from Game of Thrones after she jumped into the river to save her life.
We caught a glimpse of The Wall and Castle Black , still hidden behind security as filming is still being carried out. The Guide was an extra in the series so could tell us some interesting stories.
Cushenden Caves followed. The village itself was designed by Clough Williams-Ellis who was the architect of Portmeirion. This is where Melisandre gives birth to a shadow baby. The Storm's End caves are composed of pebbles embedded in old red sandstone eroded from the Scottish Highlands millions of years ago.
The same people were back late to the coach again.
Some of the passengers went on to walk over the Carrick-a-Rede Bridge at our next stop. We decided not to as the time was abit tight and I do nt like heights either so instead we had our lunch in the sunshine looking at the super view, We walked down to the lime quarry where more scenes had been filmed. The same people were back very late again even after they had been given a strong warning and we had actually started to leave when we saw them running.
On to the Giants Causeway where we took the shuttle bus down and back. Fantastic place. Icecream and a cup of tea at the top looking at a sea view.
Quick photo stop at Dunluce Castle and then the Dark hedges seen in the photo. A wonderful hedge of twisted beech trees planted in the 18th Century. Very popular now especially as it was used as The Kings Road where Arya Stark escapes from Kings Landing. Not easy to get a photo with no one in it so just timed this one right with no traffic either.
Back to Belfast and we went to an Italian for a very tasty steak and pud , delicious and great service.
