Flower Friday ... Black-eyed Susans
It was a hot humid afternoon by the time I got out for a walk at Glenwood Gardens, one of the Hamilton County Parks. I didn't see very many other people out walking - anyone else with the opportunity and more sense would have got out in the morning while it was a little cooler! The highlight of my walk was seeing an owl, but unfortunately he was in fairly dense foliage, and didn't stay still long enough for me to get a picture. I had stopped briefly by a pond surrounded by trees, to see if there was any life, when suddenly there was this movement over my head, and a large bird flew out to a neighbouring tree. Initially I thought it was a hawk, but when I peered through the foliage, I could see it was an owl! So since he wasn't very photogenic, I'm posting instead a few of the many Black-eyed Susans I saw. This evening we were out again - this time a free outdoor concert also in Blue Ash, as last night, but this evening at the Town Square amphitheatre in the center of Blue Ash. Blue Ash has a lot of outdoor stuff in the summer months - concerts every Tuesday and Friday. The Tuesday concerts seem to be more marching band type music, while the Fridays are more rock/oldies. Tonight's band we're OK, though we felt the vocals weren't strong enough for the music - as they had 7 or 8 instrumentalists, including trumpet and a couple of trombones. However, it was another beautiful evening to be outside, so worth going, especially since it was free!
The other big news of the day was saying goodbye to "Laura's" car! We had tried selling it before we moved to France, but didn't get any takers. This time we didn't even have to advertise it - someone at work heard Roger talking about it, and said he might be interested for his daughter, who had just written her car off. He came to see it last week, took it for a test drive, and agreed to pay the asking price, which isn't a great deal since it's 13/14 years old - it had been Philip's car before Laura - but we thought we were asking a fair price so were very happy to get it. Roger met with the guy the other day at the credit union to sort the money out and get the paperwork notarized, and he gave him the keys so he could come round any time to pick it up. There's a lot of memories tied up in that car, so it was sad to see it go, though it will be nice not to have to negotiate the third car in the driveway any longer!
