Dorsets lost village

Tyneham village only open at the weekends due to the fact that the M.O.D own the land and use the surrounding areas for practice with tanks and guns etc.
Tyneham was evacuated in 1943 and the villagers who all rented the property were told after the war ended they would return.

Sadly, in 1948 the military bought the land from the squire.
All that's left now is the church and the school plus a few shells of the former homes.
The day the people left a note was put on the church door" please look after our houses until we return"

The old phone box is one of the oldest in the country and stood how it did the day the villagers left.
