Hand tools rule
More work on The Project. Planing the panels to size, using a plane on the convex curves and this spoke shave on the concave. This spoke shave is very old, my dad gave it to me but I believe it belonged to either my Grandad or Great Uncle George. Despite its age it's excellent, very sharp, and so easy to control and get a good clean cut. My skill with this tool is very poor in comparison to it's previous owners, but somehow the experience of the hands that used it before must have passed into the metal and guided me to do a good job. It looked good and felt good. But time will tell if it all adds up in the finished project.
Whilst I was working out in the sunshine, my neighbours father looked over the fence and said in a voice reminiscent of that annoying Harry Enfield character, "You want a power plane for that job." Ha! Some people just don't understand.
Going to see the young knives tonight. Really excited. They're a great live band.
A brilliant Saturday.
