Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

From the boat

Today we went on a whale watching boat on the other side from glacier bay. It wasn't the most successful wildlife boat I've ever been on but we did see some humpbacks and some really fine stellar sea lions near our boat ( and sea otters and harbor seals and harbor porpoises and eagles and birds) .. And it was just nice to be out there in this area on the water! (Chilly but no rain!) In the afternoon we had a fabulous time listening to a lovely passionate and interesting Native Tlingit woman talk about the story of the very new (2016 the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service,....the totems outside have been here a month only) clan house here next to the glacier bay lodge on Bartlett bay. This was Tlingit land until the great glacier hundreds of years ago pushed them away and when it had receded enough that they could return, alas! it was US national park land and they were not welcome. Only last year have little steps been taken to share these spaces and reintroduce these people to their heritage land, It's a fabulous building with the most interesting social map screen I've ever seen. Will try to put it as extra but if not, when I get back I'll make a flickr album. It's too hard to do anything but post right now so I apologize for no comments back.... Really looking forward to an all day boat trip tomorrow in Glacier Bay so will talk about the Incredible importance of scientific discovery in this fast changing landscape... And hopefully see some great wildlife too!
