Fathers' Day
My dad died many years ago; 1999, and towards the end of his life he had vascular dementia - he was stolen from us a little at a time. Before his illness he was a quiet, gentle man. He didn't drink other than a whisky at Christmas but was a heavy smoker and he only smoked unfiltered cigarettes - Senior Service for choice but if he was offered a tipped cigarette he'd rip the tip off. I speak to him most days to tell him what's happening with his grandchildren and to ask his opinion on stuff. In life I'd not do that because he'd always reply "Ask your mother".
So that's something of what Fathers' Day means to me in among the messages from my children and promises of meals and drinks at an unspecified time in the future ;-)
