St Helen's Church, Beamish
Another photo taken at Beamish Museum yesterday. Please see extra photo of the church that these stones come from. This church originally served a dwindling congregation at Eston, near Middlesbrough and eventually closed in 1985. It fell into disrepair and was due for demolition when Beamish stepped in the late 1990's. The church was dismantled and all the stones were numbered and taken to the musuem. Some of the stones date back to the 11th century.
The rebuilding started in 2011 and it was formally opened by the Bishop of Durham in 2015. The church is not consecrated so no religious services can take place there.
