Corn Cockle
So... it's official, it's been the hottest day for forty odd years. I had a bit of a walk around Bartlow, I was wanting to photograph some poppies. There is a smallish corner by the old railway line that has been set aside and is covered in poppies and while I was looking I saw these! Corn Cockle which I believe are virtually extinct as wild plants in the UK. I guess these have been seeded by the farmer along with other wild flowers as a help to insects and other wildlife.
Still... it's nice to see this striking flower among the Poppies and Mayweed
