Our village was purpose built, beginning around the late 18th/ early 19th century. It was made for workers many of whom dig peat for a living.
As you can see by this picture, it still goes on, but in a much smaller scale now. In the middle ground you can see a blue tarpaulin just beside the flat layer of peat.
This is just outside the village on the road to Strichen.
