Blackbird singing ......

......in the dead of night.

Well, the very late evening.

I find watering things in the evening quite calming after the pressures of the working day. Particularly when I am surrounded by blackbirds singing as they were tonight - I think I counted at least five individual singers.

Now I know that they are advertising their territories, proclaiming their fitness, impressing the females they are paired off with, and telling their neighbours to keep away. And that it would be ridiculous to think that they also are enjoying the cool of the evening, the calm at the end of the busy day, and feeling that for a moment in this turbulent world it is right to enjoy the moment.

But even so ..........
