Arcturus over Little Mt Peel

Unfortunately we had to cancel our astrophotographers outing with Focus Timaru this evening due to bad weather. Ironically after a foul day weatherwise, late tonight the skies have cleared, so a few moments ago I stepped out onto the balcony in my PJs to take this photo of the stars over the mountain. There's a bit of fresh snow up there...

The bright star to the left of the peak is Arcturus - fourth brightest star in the night sky and brightest in the Northern Hemisphere. This view is looking north, and the star is low in the sky for us antipodeans.
