Requiescant in pace
May they rest in peace.
An evening walk took us past this quiet place. A gate breaks up the huge grey walls and reveals the cemetery of the former priory at Abbotskerswell, Devon. The priory was the home of a community of Augustinian nuns from 1861 until 1983. The work of the closed community was reparation for the sins of mankind. It once contained the hair shirt of Sir Thomas More, now in the custody of Buckfast Abbey. Since 2011 it has been a
luxury retirement village 'where you can enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle in properties which ooze character and charm '.
