Silver hike

Son 2's practice Silver DofE hike started today. He's been looking forward to it for weeks so I hope it delivers.

After seeing him off and a morning of domestic stuff I set about finishing the rejuvenation of the erstwhile heather bed. The soil was in a dreadful state so step one was to barrow as much compost from the heap as we could then adding all the half finished bags of compost of various descriptions from the shed as well at as some Q4 pellets. Having dug all that in and then raked and treaded and raked I could finally get stuck into the planting: some of the many white dahlias, Verbena bonariensis and Lychnis coronaria potted up from self sown seedlings. I'm nervous about how defenceless the dahlias seem now against slug attack but I've had words with our resident shoe-dwelling Mrs Toad and explained where she now has to carry out her evening patrols. I hope she was listening carefully.
