Mr J. Boni's Ice Cream Shop, Gilmore Place
Once an Edinburgh institution, Mr Boni's ice cream shop on Gilmore Place, is being converted in to another restaurant. It has been several types of restaurants, not many lasting very long. The last two incarnations were Imans, an Indian restaurant, and most recently, a Killer Curry house.
The Killer Curry house closed a few months ago, I blipped the skull with a Festive hat on. Not the premises is being changed again to a Caribbean restaurant. The skull has gone.
In removing some tiles and fascias, one of Mr J. Boni's original shop signs has been revealed. These are protected in Edinburgh, so it will be interesting to see if this sign merits being kept as part of the building's listed status.
Addendum
Thanks to @ZenBike_UK on twitter for this further nugget of info, which I actually remember from the time the shop in Edinburgh shut:
.
The Castle Restaurant in Inverness was started by Boni's in 1959 and was only recently sold outside the family. From Pressreader.
