1917: the turning point of the war
Today I went to a quality improvement workshop at the Castle. This evening, the 100th anniversary of the arrival of Wilfred Owen in Edinburgh, I attended a lecture by the famous war historian Prof Sir Hew Strachan.
Afterwards there was a reception which included this group of young men who had re-enacted Wilfred Owen's arrival at Waverley Station earlier in the day . They were a pleasure to talk with. I was fascinated by their uniforms and how awfully uncomfortable they must have been when wet.
There was also a beautiful performance of the Somme, expertly played on the Wilfred Owen fiddle. It was a a fitting remembrance.
