Pigeon SOS

Does anyone know about homing or racing pigeons?  This pigeon was on our drive and is now sitting on our garage roof with a bowl of water and wild bird seed (it's all I've got). It has a large blob of crimson dye on each wing, unless this is some wild pigeon colouring i'm unaware of!  It seems quite tired and very tame.

Any help tracing its owner would be most appreciated..
