Tiny Tuesday: Jewellery

Many thanks to isbi who's done a great job of hosting TT this month. Her theme for today is jewellery.

My Editor's sister used to make jewellery; several years ago I commissioned her to make this gold-and-ruby brooch as a surprise Christmas present for the Editor. It's quite understated, as is the Editor's taste; it's just over 4cm long.

As isbi said, photographing jewellery isn't as easy as one would expect. To get the ruby to glow nicely I actually took two photos, one with diffuse light from the window (which seemed best for the gold) and one with directional light (best for the ruby) and then merged them by masking in Photoshop.
