Old Railway Bridge
I was leading a walk today with the local walking group from Tipton St John. It was a walk along lanes and tracks with good views from Venn Ottery Common. We ambled through woods, across a stream and then along tracks with barley fields ripening on either side. The final stretch was across the old railway track where a tale was told of a plane that made an emergency landing in a nearby field 30 - 35 years ago. Thankfully there were no fatalities, the fuel gauge on the engine was faulty and the plane had less fuel in it than anticipated! The railway bridge shown in the blip was one of three that survived when the River Otter flooded in 1968. Although only a branch train line the bridge was soundly built.
It was a good walk that finished with a stroll along the river and then lunch in a nearby pub.
