A certain amount of detective work...
... went in to this blip, to form part of my occasional series of Harrogate Then and Now photos.
I started with the image from the library archives of Harrogate's original purpose-built cinema. The Scala (later re-named The Gaumont) was built in 1920. It closed in 1959, to be replaced by a Littlewoods store.
I was originally confused by the frontage on the far left of the old photo and thought today's Top Shop store front was the same construction. I am now convinced this is simply a similar frontage (possibly modelled on the earlier one, which was further along the road).
