And I've found out that a 12v soldering iron is just not up to what I was wanting. So out came my trusty 25w mains unit which I must have had for....god 50years!! Perhaps I should treat myself to a new one but if it still works ok why replace it? Anyway all complete now and just remains to be fitted. Fingers crossed it fits and works.
