La vida de Annie

This evening we got the sad news that Minnie's brother Max, who'd been ill for a few weeks, had been diagnosed with major organ failure and had been put down. His main human, #2S, was devastated and stayed with him right to the end. Sad also that he was the last family pet to share our lives when we all lived together as a family. Now 3 of the "children" have moved on to lives of their own, and Minnie came with me to share my new life here, where I have surrounded myself with other  new pets to care for. The kids grew up with a vast assortment of animals - dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, fish, a tortoise - and were well aware that pets die, and that they are the source of great joy until that day. All four have grown up to be loving and caring adults, and I am sure that having pets has contributed to that, although none have opted to keep any since leaving home. Maybe life is too busy and complicated for adding that further responsibility.  It's so hard to let a dog go when you have welcomed them into your family. I was there at Max's birth with his two siblings, and as he was the smallest (about 100 grams) I used to hand-feed him supplementary food from a dropper. We have had many happy times with all 4 dogs and have had much love in return. Yorkies are very empathic and always know when to snuggle close if you're upset. #2S's great gift to Max was to let him be released from his suffering, however much that hurts to do. Max had a great life and I am sure is now running wild and free as the puppy he was, on some different astral plane with mum Holly and brother Buster the first, as well as the 2 unnamed stillborn brothers from the same litter.
Some of Max's blip appearances are here.
