Word Cafe.

Quick conversation,
Whispering opinion,
Great storytellers.

What an absolutely wonderful weekend we are having in Raglan. It was the bi-annual Word Cafe festival for readers and writers. Last night we had some wonderful exponents of spoken poetry especially Maris O'Rourke.
Today here on the couch are two of New Zealand's most esteemed wordsmiths. On the left is broadcaster, educator and poet Haare Williams. On the right is Witi Ihimaera who has written short stories, television, non fiction and some 12 novels. Both are from my old home town of Gisborne so it was great to meet them in person. Haare had written poetry to accompany a photography book which was wonderful to hear about. These two are sitting there whilst the photographer,Michael Krzanich, was speaking.
