Paths are always wet . . .

. . . at Wet Sleddale. The clue’s in the name really! But the damp ground means that Bog Asphodel (see extra) grows very well here. Just coming out at the moment, they turn orange in the autumn and are a stunning sight. I love their woolly stamens – I think that’s what they are, they look like antlers with orange tips. Apparently in the 16th century Lancashire women used to collect bog asphodel from the moors and use it to dye their hair yellow.
