Winter at Chedworth Roman Villa
We have been back from our trip to Rome for less than a week, and I can't resist posting another blip with a Roman connection.
Our family visitors were still with us today, and we drove down to Chedworth in the Cotswolds. After lunch in the very fine Seven Tuns Inn, we went for a very pleasant circular walk which included a visit to Chedworth Roman Villa.
Since I last visited the villa many years ago the National Trust has done a lot of work to improve the site. A £3million project, which began in 2010 and completed earlier this year, has seen the re-excavation of mosaics originally discovered by the Victorians but subsequently re-buried. The mosaics are now protected in an environmentally controlled building, which will protect them from frost and other damage.
For my blip I have chosen this image of the mosaic floor in the dining room. This creepy looking guy is a representation of Winter.
