The woods are lovely
It's Wednesday and 21 walkers set off from the Sampson Inn in Gilsland to complete the Haltwhistle Rings Walk 22 with Brian as our leader. It was drizzling and mizzling all morning, but eventually dried off in the afternoon.
The undergrowth was very wet and the level of water in the River Irthing was high.
It is a good varied route. The main landmark is Crammell Linn Waterfall. I have never seen as much water in there and it was a golden brown colour today. We lunched on the hillside above the waterfall.
During our walk we were joined by a frisky horse (see extra). It was determined to find food in our backpacks. Give me cows, even bullocks, to deal with any day. At times it was raising its front legs. We did not feed it; we never feed horses. Eventually we left it at a gate, but it wasn't a comfortable 10 minutes before then.
The woods in my main blip are in the gorge below the Gilsand Spa Hotel. (This is famous because our friend Maureen was born here during WWII.) I've used a shallow DOF. I'm still battling to get used to the little Sony again. Today the images all looked over saturated, so I must check the settings.
Watched some of the Murray and then all of the Nadal match at Wimbledon tonight.
