Souter Lighthouse

A lovely lunch and explore at Souter Lighthouse today.

I've visited the sites of many lighthouses from the outside (and even some by sea) but I'm not sure I've ever climbed up to the light room at the top of the tower of one until today.  

There was a long spiral staircase most of the way, but the last 5m or so was up a steep ladder.  CyclopsJnr did a magnificent job of climbing all the way to the top by himself - and all the way back down again.

We rounded off the afternoon with ice-cream and sandcastles at South Shields.
