Dover, Langdon Point

One of the best views in England from the cliffs above Dover Eastern Docks. Directly down from this point you look onto the hustle, bustle and continuous activity of the Eastern Docks, but just to the left are the cliffs and rolling down land where chalk meets the sea.

This idyllic view was achieved with some effort; the route from Dover town centre was closed owing to a fuel spill near the Castle meaning the roads around were jammed solid. We did eventually extricate ourselves from the queues to find another way to Langdon Point.

Here, at the National Trust cafe, we rewarded ourselves with a restorative tea and scones before pushing Doreen along an access path to reach this view point. The weather was most oppressive all day. Threatening thunder all day with fractious clouds indicative of a storm that never came.

Back at home we were able to sit outside well past 11.00pm for dinner, cheese, coffee and chat with the temperature still at 23c.
