Arabic (food) Gluttony Meeting
We didn't have to officially have one, but we decided to hold an Annual General Meeting for the refugee support group to announce, thanks to a lot of groundwork, that we are able to move from Unincorporated Association to charitable status.
We made the evening as interesting as possible; various trustees and volunteers standing up to talk about the achievements over the last 18 months or so, one of the families providing delicious falafel and baklava, audience members with the chance to drill for more detail and socialise with volunteers.
Given the organic nature of groups such as ours, the evening was a success and we can be proud of our achievements. We ran over time and this was frantic tidying up as the humourless steward from the Quaker group (who provided the space) watched over, hollering that we had 'one minute' left, before turning the lights off on us and locking the front door before disappearing upstairs. Perhaps he wanted to make a stand as he only then had to come back down and release us.
