Chessman of Lewis........
So pleased to see more chessmen in Lewis Castle Museum, I saw others from the set in April at the British Museum (Blip April 22nd) . The pieces were found in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis. It is thought they were made in Norway around AD 1150 - 1200. They are made of walrus Ivory. Amazing figures with such intricate carvings.
Goodbye to the Outer Hebrides and heading for Ullapool on the mainland.
