Following the Light...
...to the exit.
OilMan has a higher tolerance for Friedman's, our locally owned and run version of a big box DIYt store. The people are very friendly and helpful, and there are a lot of them, but it is still a cavernous place full of things that don't interest me very much.
I was pretty motivated this morning because I had a specific mission...to look for a new front door. We still have one on our house but it is not very secure and wasn't installed correctly. Here is what I wrote about front doors not long after we moved.I think they can make quite a statement, and ours doesn't quite accomplish that....
We didn't exactly have a meeting of the minds with the door man at Friedman's. He thought we should know exactly what we wanted so he could give us an estimate, and we were under the misapprehension that he might be able to help us figure out what we wanted.
This might have had something to do with the fact that he had been helping a young couple with three very small children, two of whom were ambulatory and amusing themselves by playing with the display doors. Mom was wearing the third, and dad had to keep chasing off after the other two, a situation which may have been trying door man's patience.
He did answer a few of OilMan's technical questions which could also have tried his patience, and sent us off with a couple of catalogs. OilMan's attitude is along the lines of "...it's only a door" while mine is more like "...it's the entrance to our home".
By the time we got home it was hot enough that I could sit on the couch and use up my laptop battery looking at doors...double doors, single doors, solid doors, doors with glass "lites" (panes of glass, doors with three five or twenty lites...lites of clear, textured, etched or patterned glass, single, double or triple paned doors, fire doors and sidelights, doors made of fiberglass, wood, engineered wood or metal.
Metal...hummm...made in a place called Pinky's in Los Angeles...with funny little videos on their website...several possibilities there.
