Church garden

I was reading at Church this morning.What a tongue twister it was.I don't know how I got through it without making mistakes.
As I passed a lady who was reading at the next service she asked how I managed. I said it was tricky but I am a Professional Yapper so got through it OK ;) This plant is really unusual. Any ideas what it is ? Is it an Acer maybe ?
