Headstones

Walking through the graveyard at St Nicholas, Chislehurst I stopped to look at some of the headstones and read the engraved inscriptions.

Never having heard of the people buried there, I naturally Googled them. Charles Fuge Lowder was the founder of the Society of the Holy Cross in 1855, and in 1866 was the priest of St Peters, London Docks. He was known as the "Father of Wapping" and was the first C of E priest to receive the title ' Father'.

My extra is the simpler headstone of William Pett Ridge, a leading novelist of London life and characters in the early part of the 20th century.
He wrote over 60 books and four were adapted as films in the early 1920s.

Thus ends my history lesson. Watch this space for further gravestone memorabilia. Or perhaps not.
