Quarrygate, Aylesford

And here we go again - our village is to get yet more new houses. This time they will be on the site of a quarry that is coming to the end of it's life. As with the other schemes I'm almost certain there will be very few affordable homes as part of the plan. As I've said before, I've lived here decades but I'm still learning about my village and it's environs. Apparently, the quarry is split into two "lakes" - east and west - which are on either side of the road to the next village. The east "lake" is to be developed first with 150 new homes with potential for the west "lake" to have up to another 750!!!
It will almost certainly mean that the countryside between the two villages will now disappear. Having watched a programme tonight on Channel 4 it seems the big housebuilding companies always but always try to reduce the percentage of affordable houses in any scheme. So where we are it means plenty of houses are being built but not the right kind and not the ones that will solve the housing crisis. It makes me very angry and depressed - it's all about profit and not what's good for the local community. It's literally being bulldozed into submission.
