From Opposite Ends of the Globe

I wonder how many couples go to Orkney and bring back as a souvenir an African basket. It is not the smallest basket but not the biggest either and it survived unscathed the journey back to Edinburgh on a ferry, two buses and a taxi.

I have it earmarked it as my sewing basket, replacing the much smaller woven one which is authentically Orcadian and was bought on my first trip to Stromness 34 years ago. The comparison is interesting between the two, coming from opposite corners of the globe, but so similar in the techniques used in their making.
