Change round

A very musical day today. Some practice at home before we went to band. She was really excited to get the report for her piano exam from one of the band teachers. They had a good final rehearsal of the year. I picked her up with a snack and we drove to Brid for lunch with our lovely friends The Harts. As always, time passed far too quickly and we all had things we needed to get on with.

Katie and I were in Bridlington for a workshop that the county music service was hosting with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The RPO and music hub staff were joined by the senior youth orchestra and children were invited to come along and try new instruments. Katie was pleased as the hub administrator ran straight up to her to tell her how proud she was of her piano result. Her friends mum is a woodwind teacher and came up to katie too. Part of the thing today was the different instruments- so today Katie played a flute for the first time! This was her very first blow. She quickly had a good hold on it and was getting a lovely, confident sound. So much so that during the conducting warm up game, the conductor singled her out multiple times to play solo notes. She looked rather proud of herself. It was such a good workshop as it was so relaxed and with nearly everyone being on something new, no one cared if it wasn't perfect or if the big clever musicians made funny noises on the brass instrument they couldn't blow or the woodwind members couldn't make a nice sound with a bow. It was really creative, lots of fun and very friendly & well-spirited. She played with the RPO, how cool is that?!

We dashed home from the workshop for the youth club sports day but she decided a bit before the end that she'd had enough and wanted to find some tea & go home!
