The Old Oak Wood
Yesterday I met up with my son in Dalkeith Country Park to do some photography in the old oak woodlands. Whilst I have been to Dalkeith Country Park many times before I have never followed the path through the old oak woodlands parts of which were planted in the 12th century. There are many old oak trees with their central care totally rotted and which remain standing just by the strength of their bark and outer casing. As one of the two oldest oak woods in Scotland it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. What I found particularly captivating was the way the sinews of their age and growth showed so clearly. It just amazing that some of them have stories going back to medieval times.
