Community Woodland Planting

This is a view over the recently planted woodland at Butterybank close to my house.  The 800 trees and shrubs are still protected by plastic funnels, but there are native broad leaf and fruit trees among them.

Hopefully, they will take a very long time to grow, as I don't think I'm alone in feeling that so many trees will spoil this wonderful view over the River Isla.  I'm a great supporter of new woodland planting, but there are lots of other sites which don't have these views which would have been more suitable.

There's also a very nice bench (for admiring the view!!) and picnic tables, as well as this pile of boulders for children to climb on.  The information board nearby (see Extra) says that the boulders are from volcanic eruptions in the local area thousands of years ago, so it's not just any old pile of rocks!

The board also says that this hillside was for common use to plant trees such as ash and willow way back in the 15th century, so it has come full circle:-)
