View from Edgehill Mountain, San Francisco
Looking toward Mr. Davidson. Edgehill Mountain Park is a small wooded oasis near the West Portal area of the city; it was established as an Open Space Park in 1985 when the city purchased the undeveloped western slope. The sixth highest peak in San Francisco, the mountain was the site of one of the city's first subdivisions, but an acre of pine and cypress forest remains and is lovingly maintained by local volunteers. Residents have to contend with fog and the continued menace of erosion, but the views are stunning; it's hard to believe that this area flourishes in the middle of the city. Thanks once again to the book Stairway Walks of San Francisco for a delightful hike on our last day in town.
