Redundant?

I bought this diffuser, screw on lens filter many years ago now, it wasn't cheap and I may have used it no more than four or five times...to-day though with the free Google's Nik Efex and Photoshop, they become redundant and you get a considerable degree of control too!
How many almost useless bits have we all invested in over the years, makes you wonder:)
