Childe of Hale
Saturday 15th July 2017 (1785)
The walking group did a 5.2 mile walk today from Hale, partly along the Trans Pennine route and then back via the Mersey Way along the bank. It started with a few spots of rain but then cleared up and, for once, we stayed dry. We finished with a meal at the Childe of Hale pub.
The group is seen here with a statue of the Childe of Hale, John Middleton (1578 - 1623). He grew to a height of 9ft 3inch and was hired as a body guard by the landlord and sheriff of Lancashire.
When we walked along by the Mersey there was a bird of prey hovering close by. Of course, by the time I got my camera out it decided to move further away. I still managed the shot in the extras.
I am out this evening at the Silver Band concert in a local farm barn.
