'What are these spikey things then?'

We shifted the calves into some fresh lush grass this morning, and in that paddock was an old plum tree that had blown down last year. We thought the tree had died, but to our surprise it flowered a couple of weeks ago, and is now getting green leaves on it.

This wee calf decided to investigate the tree. I love the way she has a bit of grass hanging from her mouth, and is about to lick the spike on the branch. I didn't realise that this tree had spikes on it until I downloaded this picture - it is amazing what you learn from your photos!
