The Magpie

This visitor was on the outside of our kitchen window when I opened the blind this morning - although I didn't take much notice of it as, without my glasses, it looked like a splat of bird poo!

When I tried to photograph it later it flew off and landed on the ground - so I had to crawl around to get his shot.

I am fairly confident that it is not a hoverfly (!) and that I have identified it correctly. It has very striking markings.

Another jet set day for me - a trip to the tip with loads of rubbish and bottles (hic) and then a trip to the supermarket. Tried out the brand new Aldi in Wetherby, saving a trip to Leeds! Don't know how I keep up with the pace of life...
