The Sultan of Swing

You could say that our Tabbycat, Dexter, leads a very fine life. You might even say he's spoiled, though I might not go that far. OK, YOU go there if you want to, then. I really don't mind if you do.  ;-)

On Friday, I spent the morning tearing apart his bedroom (yes, he has his own bedroom) and cleaning everything. Dexter climbed up on containers of fabric, found a new toy, and amused himself by pushing it off the top again and again.

On this particular day, Dexter spent the entire morning sitting on the table by the window in his room, enjoying the sunbeams. He seemed very relaxed and totally regal, and so my husband and I referred to him as the Sultan of Swing. Look at him: he has the world by the tail!  :-)

The soundtrack is, of course, the marvelous Dire Straits tune Sultans of Swing, which (can you believe this?) I HAVE NEVER USED HERE!!!! Not even once! Well, THAT has to change. To make up for lost time, here are several versions:

*Performed by a young and bouncy Dire Straits, on the Alchemy Live tour, recorded in July 1983, at the Hammersmith Odeon
*A cover by Ismael Deivies (a "cajon and acoustic" version)
*For the serious guitar lovers, a wonderful version by Tommy Emmanuel, John Jorgenson, and Pedro Javier Gonzalez
*And last but not least, Dire Straits at Nelson Mandela's 70th birthday tribute in 1988, and yes, that's Eric Clapton on rhythm guitar (Favorite comment: You can be cool, but you will never be "Clapton playing rhythm for you" cool.)
