The Old Forge (Thursday 20th July 2017)

I didn't take this picture to be a blip, but as I was removing a malfunctioning receiver from the hi-fi system I needed to photograph which cables plugged in to where, in order to connect them correctly to the replacement (after they were unplugged I photographed the labelled sockets that were revealed). The whole ancient system is very Heath Robinson and needs a major overhaul. The new surround sound receiver is not yet in place, but the study is now an unholy mess as things have had to be moved around to accomodate access. Next step is to replace speaker wires.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Marvin Gaye - My Girl (recorded 29 June 1966, Hitsville, Detroit MI)
Smokey Robinson wrote My Girl for the Temptations, with the help of Ronald White, and they recorded it on 10 November 1964. It quickly became their signature song and spawned a series of covers from artists as diverse as Otis Redding, the Rolling Stones and the Jesus and Mary Chain. Smokey Robinson and the Miracles themselves made a rather disappointing version of it in 1969.
Marvin Gaye had just released an album of duets with Kim Weston when he sang vocals over three or more band tracks that had been recorded for him in New York by producer Mickey Gentile. Two of these appeared on his next solo album, In The Groove, in 1968, but his version of My Girl remained in the can until 1990, six years after he was shot dead by his father, when it appeared on The Marvin Gaye Collection. It was later included on Motown Sings Motown Treasures, a CD I was revisiting on this day.
